Considering the lifetime warranty and these unique features the price is not bad at all. You can mount this hanger to any dry floor or open floor joist and it is very easy to install. There are real buyer reviews which say that they install it in 15 minutes.

And I love the claims like “if you are not satisfied with the product you can return it no question asked” from trustworthy companies and Firstlaw is one of them. I am also sure that you will love using Firstlaw Spider Mount.

XMark is a very well known company for producing boxing equipment and thanks to 11 gauge steel frame, this mount is really sturdy.

I know that it is not totally relevant but I had experience with XMark’s speed bag platform and it did not vibrate at all. The shock was absorbed immediately. Based on the quality materials and reviews I am also sure this mount will provide quality punching experience and you can use this hanger for years.

XMark allows you to have 360 degree footwork. Also the manual is very straight forward and you can implement all the steps easily.

3. Heavy Punching Bag Hanger “The Silencer”

a good punching bag hangerThe Silencer gets attention a lot lately and the sales looks incredible for a punching bag hanger. So I decided to update the writing just because of this one. In my opinion, Firstlaw Spider is still at the top however, this hanger gets to be the second best for ceilings. This can be definitely an alternative to boxers, MMA fighters who are looking for a decent hanger, mount to hang their heavy bag at their own home and I will explain the reason below.

This can accommodate punching bags which have relatively more weight as well. It is up to 300 pounds and even you are a hard puncher and a heavy guy, you will probably do not need any more than that.

It allows 360 degree of freedom for a punching bag to swing and rotate.

It also does not allow vibration and impact to affect the wall badly. It basically absorbs the shock before it reaches the wall or wherever you set it up.

Also I included a video and the guy talks about how The Silencer made the whole home silent and he is working out in the basement. He also says that his wife does not complain about the noise any more. You can also see the difference between The Silencer and regular punching bag bracket. It is night and day.

It is claimed that it reduces the noise by %58. Also there is a similar claim for vibration as well. When guy punches the bag, The Silencer rotates in the hanger without much resistance and this obviously affects the noise levels. It is way less than normal.

After I had watched this video, I was convinced that these claims are right.

Also, this is one of the rare punching bag hangers which come with a lifetime warranty! Installation with screws is quite easy. There is even an image on the product page which shows where to place them.

4. Promounting Rafter Mount for Heavy Bags

Exclusive Features

  • Perfect for a rafter
  • Vibration inhibitor
  • Steel construction
  • Powder coated for extra durability
  • 1 year warranty
  • Silent

Capacity: 120 lbs.

Warranty: 1 year

This one is for wooden rafters or joists. It has spring action to reduce noise so your neighbors won’t hear a thing 😉 Even though it can be used for wood the weight capacity is 200 lbs. and thanks to powder coating this mount has durable finish. Promounting has 1 year warranty and the company has many mounting models with decent reviews.

It is expert about mounts for wooden joists. This hanger has also vibration inhibitor and it is good for a joist hanger which generally doesn’t have too much capacity. So I can easily say that if you have a wooden rafter, then you should definitely consider Promounting.

Keep in mind that the beam should support 4 times of the total weight. However if you want to hang a bag  which is longer than 50” then it needs to support 5 times of the heavy bag’s weight.

A Hanger for beams…

5. Firstlaw Fitness Wood Beam Heavy Bag Hanger

You probably saw how great Firstlaw Spider Mount is and hands down it is the most quality hanger of the company. However it is not the only quality product of Firstlaw.

The company also gives a lifetime warranty for Firstlaw Wood Beam Mount but you won’t have the same quality as the Spider Mount.

It will give quality punching experience at first however it does not absorb vibration well. So quality of punching experience will get lower with time and you may have that “weird swing” in future so your training quality will suffer in the future.

However, you will have more quality punching experience than any other beam hanger. It is very study and can carry up to 250 lbs. Firstlaw Fitness is the only quality wood beam mount which allows bag to have a decent movement. If you want to hang your punching bag to a beam then Firstlaw is for you. Below, you can see the difference between Firstlaw and other hangers.alternative hanger

Advantages and Disadvantages of Heavy Bag Hangers

Heavy bag training is an essential one for boxers and various other martial artists. Many bodybuilders and other athletes also include it in their workout regimen. So basically many people need a heavy bag thus many people use a hanger.

However, you may not have a space to put a giant bag stand in their own home. Many boxing, martial arts gyms don’t prefer that either. It really covers a lot of space and many gyms only have limited area to train and that is understandable. After all, they may not afford to rent a huge place and I was one of them just two years ago. So what do they prefer? They prefer heavy bag hangers. These don’t cover much space and comparing to heavy bag stands these are on the cheaper side.

Disadvantages: Stands are more preferred as these can last longer and most of them can go strong for years, also some of them come with a speed bag platform and screws. The legs can also help stabilizing the bag more than regular hangers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I hang a heavy bag from ceiling? As long as support is enough and if it is drywall you can hang a heavy bag from ceiling. First you need to determine where the joist is and this can differ for every home. After locating the joist with knock knock method you can install the hanger.

Can I hang a Heavy Bag in My Basement? Basements are no different from other room types and as long as the ceiling has capacity to accommodate the heavy bag plus hanger’s weight you are good to go. The rule of thumb is that the beam should support more than a couple of times heavy bag and hanger’s weight. As long as you follow this rule you will be safe.

What Other Equipment are Needed? Some hangers may need a chain to hang a heavy bag and you can hang a heavy bag to some with just a simple carabineer and screws.

Some may include springs to reduce the tension.

The Buyer’s Guide

What to look for when buying a hanger?

Capacity: First things first, a hanger, bracket should have a way higher capacity than your heavy bag. If you are not careful, this mistake can cost you as heavy bag can tear up and filling material can make a real mess.

Materials: The material quality plays a huge role for durability and your punching experience can significantly be better if a hanger is made of decent materials. If you have the cash I suggest you go with military grade steel. The quality materials minimize the vibration and these will also last way more. For example, thanks to the material quality, gauge steel does not vibrate much and thanks to the density, less impact reaches to ceiling or wherever you are hanging and this is recommended that you should hang your heavy bag to ceiling hook mount which is made of 18 gauge steel.

 About Heavy Bag Hanger Straps

These must be made of relatively good materials as you will hang them to beams and a strap needs to hold the bag really well. So as you can guess it must be a really sturdy strap so it can accommodate heavy bag when powerful kicks and punches are thrown. The straps can stretch and thus swing can increase over time. So the straps are more likely to be useless faster than hangers. But don’t that discourage you to buy straps. There are some vinyl straps which can accommodate 500 lbs. Now that is a lot, right?

Final Thoughts

A hanger can provide best training experience or it can make your training session worthless. It can truly make this kind of difference.

If you need the most stable, quietest hanger which can give you 360 degree freedom, I strongly recommend you to pick up your OWN Firstlaw Fitness Spider Mount. It will surely give you the SMOOTHEST striking experience for long years to come. However, you might want to hang it to a wall then XMark is a great choice and lets not forget that both of these have top notch vibrator inhibitor qualities and lifetime warranties.

  1. These hangers look awesome, especially the Spider Mount.

Spider Mount looks cool but how does it secure to the ceiling? And can you adjust the height?

One more question, if you use these types of hangers in your house, you will need to drill holes into the ceiling or walls, is it? So a permanent hole in the wall or ceiling in inevitable if you want to set this up in your house?

  2. Great information. I didn’t realize that there were so many different heavy bag mounts and hangers. We have a heavy weight bag in our basement, which hangs from one of our rafters but I don’t think we have the proper mount for it. I might have to consider one of the Promounting Rafter Mount, as it might be the safer way to go. Thanks for the information.

  3. Thanks for the thorough coverage. I’ve learned a lot about hangers. I’m no boxer and I do not use punching bags, but if anyone ever asks me about hangers, I will know where to send them.

    1. You are welcome Peter, I am glad that you learnt a lot and I hope you will start training, because boxing is just a great sport 😉 I am also sure that when you send someone they will find what they are looking for.

  4. Very insightful information. I have a boxing bag and it actually isn’t really secure. I never thought about the actual pieces that secure the bag until I stumbled onto your site. Thanks for sharing and I’ll have to come back here.
