Punch mitt training is really fun and teaches you many skills. You also get better at footwork and pad work has a lot of other amazing benefits as well and it should be definitely in your training routine. With that, there are some boxing gloves which are just more suitable for focus mitt training and below you can find the reviews of most quality boxing gloves for pads. I picked these from forums, my experiences (in Boxing and MMA gyms) and also got information from basically everywhere.

Important Note: All boxing gloves on this list can be used for all training types including punch mitt training and I also included a size chart and according to that, you can choose any pair on this list.

Without further ado let’s start with the obvious first choice…

1. Twins Special Boxing Gloves

Exclusive Features

  • Quality and lots of padding
  • Good padding distribution to punch faster
  • Incredible wrist support
  • Have all safety features
  • Genuine and very quality leather
  • Ideal for every training type including pad and bag work
  • Simply the most quality boxing gloves for punch mitt training
  • Very comfy (made in Thailand)
  • Very popular and many color selections including red and green

Firstly, I have seen Twins Special in many boxing gyms and a lot of people prefer it for their punch mitt sessions. There are actually a couple of reasons for that. Firstly, this pair is not expensive for a quality pair which is made of genuine leather. It lasts at least 4 years and the leather has some serious quality. Also, this pair made the top of the best cheap boxing gloves list a long time ago. I seriously don’t think that any pair can beat this deal.

Anyway, it has very good padding quality and has a bit more padding than other gloves. It simply protects your hand well and thanks to the distribution of it, you will punch faster with it.

It also has more padding at the upper side than regular gloves and if that parts contacts with focus mitts, it will protect your hand’s upper part quite well.

It is also very comfy and softer than other pairs so while you have sweaty sessions with it, at least your hands will be comfortable.

It is a training type pair and you can do every training type (heavy bag, double end bag…) with it.

I think it is one of the most popular gloves for pad work. Seriously I have seen that a myriad of people in boxing gyms have a blast with it during punch mitt sessions.

You can also choose this or any pair on this list according to size chart below. If you are interested, you can read more extensive review for further information.

2. Fairtex Training Gloves

Protection Rating: 9.3 / 10.0

Training Quality Rating: 9.2 / 10.0

Durability: 9.1 / 10.0

Quality / Price Rating: 9.3 / 10.0

Exclusive Features

  • Quality padding
  • Genuine leather
  • Good wrist support
  • Great for all training types (punch mitts, heavy bag…)
  • Handmade

The padding is a bit stiff and even though it is good for the glove it is bad for the durability of the pads. Because it is a bit harder than usual and because of that the punch mitts will have more deformation than normal. With that, you will also have a couple of weeks break in period.

It has some serious quality padding and protects your hands quite well. Even though it does not have the best wrist support, it is still quite good. I used this pair in a gym (Samut Prakan, Thailand) and I give 8 out of 10 for the wrist support and have very good sessions with it.

The padding also does not move much and it is not good or bad. It is just a preference. But I thought that you should know if you think of getting it.

It has many color selections and design and I am sure you will see something you like 😉 As a side note, it also has a great fitting rate.

Price: It is actually quite good. Check out the latest price on Amazon.

Let’s continue with most affordable and quality pair for punch mitt training…

Venum Elite Boxing Gloves

affordable option for punch mittsProtection Rating: 8.9 / 10.0

Training Quality Rating: 8.8 / 10.0

Durability: 8.7 / 10.0

Quality / Price Rating: 9.7 / 10.0

Exclusive Features

  • Good padding
  • Comfy
  • Suitable for all training types (punch mitts, heavy bag…)
  • Comfy
  • Cheapest pair, which has certain quality, for focus mitt training
  • Many color selections including orange and blue

Venum Elite is also suitable for ALL training types like rest of the pairs on this list and can be chosen according to sizing chart at the beginning of the page. It is made of synthetic leather and everything about this pair is above average. The padding is fine and even though it is not the most comfortable pair (I have used it a couple of times) you will feel alright with it. The leather is a bit stiffer than usual and how can I describe the padding? Well, the quantity is not much and when you punch, it does not move much. Also, I did not feel soreness after heavy bag training sessions. So, the shock absorbing qualities are quite good. Considering that you will do punch mitt sessions with it, you will be extremely safe.

Price: Obviously you can’t use this pair as long as genuine leather gloves but it will give you decent training quality sessions and it is also affordable (cheapest pair on this list). Go on Amazon for the price.

Final Thoughts

Alright, these are all GREAT boxing gloves for pad work and I am sure that you will have awesome sessions with either one of these. However, Twins Special is just ahead of others and it is made of very quality genuine leather. Also, keep in mind that thanks to the distribution, you will just punch faster with it. If you want to train with the most quality boxing gloves for pads, then get your Twins Special on Amazon. I hope that you enjoyed reading and if you have any questions, please leave a comment below.

  1. Love this post. Great review. I did boxing in the past and now that good quality boxing gloves is worth an investment. Protect your wrists and your hands..great review.

  2. Very informative, I really like the way the Venum gloves look, but I know that isn’t the important part.

You have fully convinced me to go for the Twins. Nothing could be more important that excellent comfort and support!

  3. All of these gloves look awesome. I do more kickboxing for cardio, so I just need something light. Any good ones for that?!

  4. Although I have no boxing experience, the review on the gloves looks great. The first pair would be my choice and maybe one day I’ll give a try. I’ve heard it’s a great way to workout frustrations. I do know a boxing coach that may like your site, i will pass it on.

    1. That pair’s padding and wrist protection are just solid so if you are just starting out, it will protect you. There are many people who come to gyms in Thailand and work out frustrations.

  5. Hey Furkan, really cool and informative post. I really like the Venum gloves because they have a good quality and I’m a Venum fan because of Anderson Silver 🙂 However, the twin gloves actually look good. My problem is I do Kickboxing so they are a bit big for that. Do you have any recommendations for 10oz gloves?

    1. I also remember that Anderson Silva wore many different Venum MMA Shorts. Twins are way bulkier than the other boxing gloves. So it is probably not a good fit for you. Man, I really do not know anything about kickboxing, never tried it. I also don’t know any legit kickboxing site online. The reviews are generally written by not expert sites.
You can do a Google research and find a kickboxing site. Then, you can ask this question to a kickboxing site owner.

  6. hey there, awesome site. I love how you are focusing on things that are really relevant when it comes to mitt training. I personally use the venum elite gloves for my mitt training sessions and they also work great for light sparring. I think that it is important to have great gloves to avoid injuries during hard training sessions.
I would love to see an article on bandages from you since I am currently looking to replace mine. Keep up the great work!

    1. Venum elite’s construction (skintex) is just really good for pad work. The upper side of your hands is always protected well. So I am not surprised. But I never sparred with it so I can’t comment about it. However, if you do hard sparring, it can really hurt since the construction is a bit tough.
I already wrote about it and it is a short article (hand wraps) but you may find it useful.

  7. Nice review! I have used both the venum, and the fairtex boxing gloves both are super solid picks. I agree that the fairtex are a bit better than the venum gloves. I am going to have to give the twin boxing gloves a try, especially with the high overall grade that you have given to it.

    1. Twins Special is more padded and basically, your hands will be less sore after the drill. Protection wise it is way better and the padding is also light so you can practice the techniques with more ease. So you can save a bit more energy and you can even go for an extra round.

  8. Great review
I did some boxfit training to help me lose weight, and after reading this article, I will be taking more into consideration when choosing boxing gloves. I thought it didn’t really matter which one you used and I always went for the cheapest ones. So thank you for sharing your wisdom on boxing gloves and pads.

    1. Yeah, you can find that almost every gym offers boxercise, boxfit… classes because they can just melt the fat like there is no tomorrow. There are many different types of gloves and you should definitely do more research than that. Let’s say you want to do punching bag training so you want to be well protected with a lot of padding or you need to punch your sparring partner with gloves which have lots of soft padding so they will not have a concussion etc.

After you choose a type for your needs then you can evaluate the price.

  9. Hi Furkan,

Great information in this article! I have personally bought several things from Venum in the past and it has all being amazing quality that lasted so I am partial towards them. At some point in time, I will be looking for a new pair of gloves and will definitely keep this in mind. Thank you.

    1. Venum is one of my favorite brands. Even though the company offers some really great gears some have indeed average and below average quality. But the gloves are generally alright.
