My Experiences: I punched Meister Focus Mitts and also held them in MMA gym in Thailand. I actually have very weak wrists and I am extremely careful when I do any kind of training which involves my wrists. With that, when I held it, it only moved a little during punches and I barely felt them. So I can easily say that the padding absorbs the shock very well and doesn’t move much which I liked a lot. Because when the padding of punch mitts moves, I always feel uncomfortable and I did not feel that with these mitts at all.
I have held 5-6 mitts in my life so far and considering my experiences it is slightly lighter than other mitts which have 2″ padding. It shows the quality of padding. Also, it absorbs the shock well and these mitts have lightweight. These are why you will have amazing training sessions with Meister Cowhide.
These mitts are curved and many trainers actually prefer this design. Since this design gives more control over the mitts. Even though I am not an experienced trainer I also felt comfortable with the usage.
It is made of cowhide leather and according to my experiences with boxing and MMA products, cowhide is the sturdiest material and it also feels natural.
Durability: I talked with trainers who have experiences with Meister and they trained with it more than 2 years.
Price: There are punch mitts on the market which are more expensive than Meister and do not give half of the quality or durability of Meister Cowhide Leather. Seriously, it has the greatest quality price ratio.
2. RDX Boxing Hook & Jab Pads
Training Quality: 8.9 / 10.0
Durability: 8.8 / 10.0
Comfort: 9.0 / 10.0
Quality / Price Rating: 9.7 / 10.0
- Leather does the job
- Shock absorbing padding
- Air regulating features
- Last around 1-2 years
RDX Boxing Hook & Jab Pads are made of Maya Hide and actually, it is not the most durable cover material. I checked many MMA, boxing and martial arts forums and according to many people’s experiences, you can expect to train with it around 1-2 years.
It has shock absorbing padding however many people on MMA forums say that they feel the impact. So trainers can expect to feel soreness after a workout.
The safety and air regulating qualities look fine and I generally have read good things about them. Also, the inner part is also made of Maya Hide leather and it is comfy.
You will notice that there are air regulating panels at the upper side and these provide good air flow. Maya Hide definitely also helps trainers to be more comfortable as well.
It is definitely a good alternative to Meister and it also provides good wrist support.
You will also see RDX Boxing Hook & Jab Pads in many commercial boxing gyms.
3. Everlast Boxing Mantis Punch Mitts
Training Quality: 8.5 / 10.0
Durability: 8.5 / 10.0
Comfort: 9.3 / 10.0
Quality / Price Rating: 9.8 / 10.0
- Do the job just fine for a year
- Comfortable hold
- Comfy, good air flow
- Cheapest punch mitts which have certain quality
Everlast Boxing Mantis is very light but it has very little padding. Even though it does the job, trainers can expect to face with bigger impact than usual.
It has many meshes and these provide very good air flow. As you can see there are compartments for every finger. Even though it is good for you to be more comfortable, this also decreases the durability. Because after Everlast gets hit, obviously it will move and these parts will stretch more than usual.
With that, you can still punch and kick it around a year.
It is made of poly-canvas and Everlast says it is durable and really good etc. But it is not a good material for punch mitts at all. However, as I said it will do the job for a year. After that, the hold will get worse and worse because of stretching and this “durable” poly-canvas will have rough spots. As as result, your boxing gloves may have defects.
I don’t have the exact data but according to my experiences, it is the most popular punch mitts on the market. I have seen it in many local boxing gyms. Obviously, the cheap price is a reason for that.
Price: Everlast Boxing Mantis has the cheapest price among punch mitts on this list and decent quality. You will get decent quality sessions for a year and pay less than 20 dollars (August 8th, 2017).
Punch mitt training is just great and also fun. It prepares you where to stand during strikes and it also benefits your footwork. It is simply essential for your training and I know very well that the price can go up if you do any kind of Martial arts. Because let’s admit it there are many things to buy (headgear, mouth guard, shoes…). With that, you don’t have to spend $75+ to get decent quality focus mitts. There are many great focus mitts on this list and have good prices. However, I have amazing experiences with Meister Cowhide and it is really sturdy, has good design and incredible wrist support. Let’s not forget that it is really affordable. If you are interested, have a look at Meister on Amazon.
