let’s continue with how to clean boxing gloves…

Best Method for Cleaning

There are several ways to clean boxing gloves. However, some of them can make your gloves useless. Best common method is that to use cover material friendly Lysol for cleaning. Spray couple of times into and onto your gloves. It should be just enough to make your gloves moist. Then, rub your gloves with cotton sheet in circular motion. Now that your gloves are bacteria free, let your gloves have some air again. I generally leave it in balcony for a night and after gloves are dry,  it is time to get rid of smell. Febreze Fabric Refresher is just the thing what you are looking for. After you get rid of bacteria, then couple of sprays make your pairs odor free. I have been using this method for longer than 2 years and it works like a charm. After you use Febreze, then again let your gloves to have air.

Can you Extend your Gloves Durability?

If your gloves are vinyl then you won’t need any conditioning and these products make your vinyl glove’s durability very bad. With that, if you are using leather then it can definitely use some conditioning. When your gloves are dry after cleaning, you can use some cotton sheets to rub essential oils onto your gloves in circular motion. This will surely extend your pairs durability and provide maintenance of leather. There are lots of affordable and quality products on amazon and Art Essential Oil it has  very affordable price and I LOVE using tea tree 😉

Best Alternative Method for Cleaning

You may not find Lysol and Febreze every time or these may simply be out of reach. I have been there and I have ProForce Leatherette Boxing Gloves with White Palmbeen training boxing in several countries, when I first time I asked Lysol in Asia, they definitely didn’t understand what I was talking about and it happened more than once. Anyway, if you can’t reach any of these products, then best alternative method  is to find some spray bottle and some vinegar.  Even it is not my favorite method, it works. I do it with apple vinegar and I think other types like lemon.. will be just fine. Put 1 ounce of vinegar and 2 ounces of water in a spray bottle then shake it. Spray into and onto your gloves to just enough for making it moist. After that, get rid of excess vinegar with cotton. Finally, let your pairs get some air for a night.

Let’s continue with other alternatives…

Waiting Your Gloves in Solution

It can be doable and you need to check whether solution hurts glove’s material or not. You can just put your gloves in solution and wait couple of hours. Then, take gloves out  and let them have air until these become dry. It can be a very good alternative and this is my definite third choice. You can use sea salt water as solution or any solution which won’t hurt your gloves material.

Cotton Bags Filled with Cedar Chips

Some people also use cotton bags, socks filled with cedar chips or some people stuff newspaper pieces in gloves.  Even though these methods won’t kill all bacteria, these will get rid of moisture quite well and in that way, you can prevent creation of bacteria.

Freezing

I  used this method once. After waiting  your gloves in freezer section of refrigerator, all bacteria and bad smells surely will go away. With that, my refrigerator had that weird smell after I did it. Well it was not so nice and I don’t recommend you to do that either.

Boiling

I searched online about this method and lots of people just boil their gloves in a stew pot. According to them, it Pair USA Flag 20oz Boxing Glovesworks and I am also sure that this method can get rid of bacteria, odor etc. But I have doubts about whether this hurts glove’s leather or not. Also let’s not forget that it can affect the construction of the gloves. So, I strongly recommend  you to avoid this last method.

Tips to have even more fresh gloves…

Don’t forget to wash your boxing hand wraps time to time. Because if it is dirty,  it can make glove’s inside dirty and smelly in no time. By the way I do boxing training 3 times per week and washing hand wraps one time per week is enough for me.

For Faster Results: When you let them dry outside or in front of fan, put some cotton or newspaper pieces in boxing gloves. In that way, these will suck the moisture faster and your gloves will be dry sooner.

Warnings

Don’t leave your pairs in front of sun or hot air. Even though it won’t do any harm to your gloves in short time, if you leave these for several hours, it will surely affect the durability of gloves especially leather pairs. It can even develop a funky smell.
