Sanabul GI Review – The Complete Guide

Sanabul has arguably the most popular gis on the market and the gis have really good designs and it is actually a pretty huge reason for that but what I like the most is that Sanabul doesn’t overprice the products.

There are seriously very good Sanabul Gis on the market and these accommodate most body types. With that, I am sure that you can also find a kimono for your budget!

Without further ado let’s start Sanabul Gi review with most quality one.

  • Single Weave (450 gsm)
  • Tapered athletic cut
  • Contrast stitching + reinforced seams
  • Really light!
  • Thick collar
  • Preshrunk
  • IBJJF approved
  • One of the most quality gis!

Firstly, the single weave is really light and this kimono has contrast stitching and reinforced seams. So what do these actually provide for you?

Single weave is not heavy as the other weave types, however, contrast stitching, and reinforced seams make it more durable. Considering the durability feedback on really popular jiu-jitsu forums, it gets A- easily. However, as you may know, the single weave is the lightest weave type and while you are grappling, it helps you move faster and provides good airflow, comfort at the same time.

The thick collar makes it harder for your opponent to grip and hold which is definitely a huge advantage to have while you are sparring or in a competition! Also, materials, design, length of sleeves … are IBJFF approved so you can use this one in competitions. Also, Sanabul Highlights has tapered cut and this design gives less fabric to grip.

Considering that you can show better training performance on mats, there is no wonder why we keep seeing Sanabul Highlights in tournaments like European Open Championship, Abu Dhabi World Pro, and more.

In addition to these, this single weave kimono is processed with antimicrobial technology and even it is not the best about it, it is above average and if you are sweating a lot this can be an option as well.

Guys, shortly it is definitely one of the best BJJ Gis and this gi has truly the greatest quality-price ratio among top-notch kimonos. If these are appealing to you, have a closer look at Sanabul Highlights.

It also comes preshrunk so you don’t need to worry about the first wash and pants are made of a ripstop material which is the most commonly used sturdy material for pants.

Sanabul Essentials v.2 Review

Sanabul Essentials v.2 ReviewTraining Quality (weight + freedom): 8.9 / 10.0

Durability: 8.8 / 10.0

Comfort: 8.5 / 10.0

Quality / Price Rating: 9.3 / 10.0

Exclusive Features

  • Single weave
  • Tapered design
  • Rubber collar
  • Sturdy
  • Antimicrobial
  • Can be washed in hot or cold water
  • Comes with a free belt!

The construction and weave type of Sanabul Essentials are same as Sanabul Highlights. However, there are some differences. For example, this one does not have a gsm number but considering the feedback I can easily say that you can use it around 2 years without any defects and it won’t be baggy in this period. One thing is to note that the knitting and rubberized collar make it sturdier and a bit heavier, however, these also make it harder to hold as well.

One thing is to note that after a couple of years of training with it, many people dress their grappling dummies with this gi. Apparently, it is a good fit for these dummies and it doesn’t slide. The inner part provides enough traction with the surface of a dummy and many other kimonos just do not provide it.

This one is extremely suitable for people who want to get the best bang for the buck. This gi comes with a BJJ belt and you can choose the color according to your rank (black, white, purple etc.). And it is made of gi material so it will be a good match with your gi.

I am sure that once you see the price, you will be pleasantly surprised. If you are interested, check out the most recent price.

It can be washed in hot or cold water and Sanabul Essentials v.2 comes preshrunk. The material won’t shrink after you dry and the shrinking is just negligible. I also want to mention something. I have been in my jiu-jitsu journey for a couple of years and I know very well that Sanabul actually considers customer feedback and produces the gis accordingly. For example, the old models of Essential shrunk a lot however this one basically does not shrink at all. In my opinion, this is a positive sign for this particular gi and the company.

Sanabul Limited Edition RM Rigan Machado

Sanabul Limited Edition RM Rigan Machado ReviewTraining Quality (weight + freedom): 8.4 / 10.0

Durability: 8.9 / 10.0

Comfort: 8.1 / 10.0

Quality / Price Rating: 9.1 / 10.0

Exclusive Features

  • Pearl Weave
  • Double stitched
  • Tapered athletic cut
  • Sublimated rash guard
  • Control the shrinking!
  • Rigan Machado designed it!

This gi is designed by Carlos Gracie’s nephew (Rigan Machado). As you may know, Rigan Machado is a really successful BJJ practitioner who is Pan American Champion and it is only one of his great achievements. Anyway, this gi has pearl weave and is double stitched. Thanks to these this limited edition jiu-jitsu kimono is quite sturdy.

One thing is to note that guys you don’t need to wear a rash guard while wearing this kimono. Since Sanabul Rigan Machado has a fully sublimated rash guard! It wicks your sweat and also warms your upper body. So if you invest in this gi, you don’t need to spend any money for a rash guard.

You can also control the shrinking. If you want it to shrink, you can wash it in hot water or if you are satisfied with the length etc. you can just wash it in cold water.

If you are interested in a good pearl weave jacket which is quite sturdy and has decent quality, check out Rigan Machado on here.

As you can see this gi has some cool unique qualities and does not RM logo look just awesome?

A Word about Sanabul: This company produces many essential BJJ and MMA gears including MMA gloves, MMA headgear, BJJ belts and more.  However, you basically can’t see any fancy materials or “unorthodox” design. This is why you will hear that many people say at least decent things about Sanabul BJJ Gis. Also unlike other BJJ companies, Sanabul produces gis for everyone including children and women. And as you may know, finding a good one in these particular departments can be a pain in the ass. One thing is to note that if you wear a rash guard and spat, you can improve the durability of these gis. Since getting rid of moisture is not exactly the strongest department of Sanabul Gis.

It produces good and cheap BJJ equipment and you just can’t go wrong with the products which have a myriad of feedbacks! With that, according to my experiences and research, Essentials Gi needs to have an upgraded design (sleeve part) for you to show better groundwork performance on mats. Also, Sanabul Gis have different sizing specifications. Your body may be A2 for many other kimonos but it is different for Sanabul. But don’t worry, the company provides very detailed sizing information. As a final note, the stretching qualities and design tend to provide a good range of motion and this is why Sanabul Gis can be also used as judo gis as well.

I really hope that you enjoyed reading the reviews of Sanabul Gis. I try to be thorough as much as possible however if you have any questions or need furthermore information, just have a comment below.

  1. These all look like great, high-quality products and the reviews certainly indicate that. Are these the proper attire for karate? What sport/activity are Sanabul GI’s used for?
A standard kimono seems like it would hinder more than help you in a fight but these, on the other hand, look like they would be very helpful. Especially if they are harder for your opponent to grip.

    1. Sanabul Gis are mainly used for BJJ and Judo. I think that some of them are also used for Karate but I really don’t have any information about Karate or Judo Gis.
Well, it is essential for BJJ and I think you need to do way more research on this topic.
