Did you get used to 5 mm mouth guards? Well I know MANY people did and some seriously hate them because they can’t drink water, talk or even breathe properly. Obviously some 4-5 mm mouth guards allow them but Sisu is just perfect about these.

As you may understand from the name it is produced with “next-gen” technology. It is made from non compressible thermoplastic polymer. This material distributes and absorbs shock incredibly well.

You may have seen that this guard has lots of holes. These holes provide more breathing capacity and make it easier for you to drink water during training session.

Its design has rounded corners and the design also provides better shock distribution and absorption at the same time.

Sisu dominates the mouth guard industry and produces many mouth guards for boxing and other martial arts as well. If you look at any mouth guard catalog you can see Sisu products in there. It is really popular. Among these products Max 2.4 next gen truly delivers the best protection and comfort. This mouth guard is built exclusively for high impact sports like boxing and MMA.

Thanks to all these features, Max 2.4 does not have to be thick like “traditional” mouth guards. These traditional mouth guards’ material and design simply can’t diffuse the shock well and you may end up with broken teeth after your sparring session.

Comparing to older model, Max 2.4 has many improvements including mold-ability. It makes this guard even more usable.

This mouth guard gets excellent feedback from everywhere and I can say that you get way more than what you pay.

Let’s continue with the most quality guard for sports like basketball, lacrosse…

SISU 1.6 Aero Guard

Protection Rating: 9.4 / 10.0

Comfort: 10.0 / 10.0

Durability: 9.0 / 10

Quality / Price Ratio Rating: 9.9 / 10.0

Unique Pros

  • Next-gen shock absorbing materials and design
  • Incredibly thin (1.6 mm)
  • Ideal for lacrosse, basketball…
  • Very easy to breathe, drink water and talk
  • Comfortable
  • Lot of color selection
  • Best quality price ratio for a mouth guard

There are many sport types and obviously the impact type and intensity can change according to your sport type. One mouth guard can be perfect for boxing training and the other one just can’t protect you enough. Sisu Aero 1.6 is made for sports like basketball, lacrosse etc. It is even thinner than the first guard and this one has only 1.6 mm thickness.

It also has more holes so you can talk and drink water even more comfortably. Aero provides remold-ability and if you feel like it is not right fit you can just mold it again for your preference. Many other mouth guards on the market simply don’t allow you to do that and some mouth guards are also remold-able but it can decrease their durability. With that Aero’s materials are suitable for it and this is one of the reasons why it gets so many good reviews and ratings.

As you know Aero has many holes and it is also incredibly thin. These features also provide you to clean mouth guard easier and these also minimize the smell.

Right now it has over 400 reviews and very high ratings on amazon. If you will do sports types, which are suitable for this mouth guard (basketball, lacrosse, soccer..), you can definitely go with Sisu Aero 1.6 and I am sure you will be extremely satisfied with your choice

Let’s continue with most quality guard for children…

SISU Junior / Kids Guard

Protection Rating: 9.4 / 10.0

Comfort: 10.0 / 10.0

Durability: 9.0 / 10

Quality / Price Ratio Rating: 9.9 / 10.0

Unique Pros

  • Next-gen shock absorbing materials and design
  • Incredibly thin (1.6 mm)
  • Ideal for kids (up to 12 years old)
  • Ideal for lacrosse, basketball…
  • Very easy to breathe, drink and talk
  • Incredibly comfortable
  • Very easy to mold
  • Lot of color selection

This one is basically made for children and it is smaller version of the mouth guard above. It is ideal for lacrosse, basketball etc. and it can’t be used for sparring in boxing or any other martial arts. It is too thin for them and can’t provide necessary protection. With that it is ideal for other sports which don’t include strikes. It has lots of holes and provides children to breathe easier. Considering that many kids complain about mouth guards’ comfort (it happens in my gym all the time) these features seriously have huge importance. Sisu Junior is suitable for children up to 12 years old and has many color selections.

Conclusive Thoughts

I rarely witness a company which always produces very quality products. For example Outslayer has perfect punching Sisu mouth guard ratingbags and Winning has very good quality boxing gloves. Truly there are only a few companies can manage to achieve that. And Sisu is definitely one of them. If you will do boxing training or any other contact sports then Sisu Max 2.4 is just for you. Its size is almost half of other mouth guards and it provides incredible shock dissipation and comfort at the same time. You can also talk and breathe easily.

With that if you will play basketball or do sports which do not include punching or striking then you can even use a Sisu mouth guard reviewthinner mouth guard. Aero 1.6 is one of the best selling products of the company and provides good safety and comfort as well.

  1. This post is just what I needed! My little guy…well, not so little anymore…is getting ready for spring sports. Safety is my number one concern but I have to make sure it’s comfortable enough for him to WANT to wear it. This review will help! Thanks so much!

    1. I am sure Sisu will help your children to get the best protection during spring sports.
Well I know that situation. So many kids in my boxing gym complain about guards and Sisu is so much thinner than other mouth guards on the market. So I am sure your child will be comfortable, too

Sisu seems to make a lot of high quality mouth guards that can be used for different circumstances. I have a friend who practices jujitsu and boxing at the same time. He did mention that the mouth guard is something he has a love hate relationship with it.

He literally can barely breathe with it like you said. For him, I think the Sisu Max 2.4 nextgen is perfect for him. It is half of the width of regular mouth guards while stilli being able to distribute shock properly. However, he is skeptical about new products so I probably have to recommend him over here and let him take a look himself.

I would say he should really go for it, because it is really designed with the fighter in mind. There are even extra breathing holes so that the fact doesn’t drain the stamina so quickly. What do you think?

    1. Exactly, this mouth guard is made for fighters. As a jiu-jitsu practitioner, I am sure that he will find it useful especially when his opponent chokes him or during headlocks. The discomfort is minimal.

At first, I was skeptical and I did not even put NextGen in this review but after a lot of research and after my sparring body (in boxing) I just had to include it.

Exactly, the holes improve breathing quality and it directly affects the stamina positively. So I can easily say that he should go for it.

  3. I am not used to seeing mouthguards that have aerodynamic holes in them. Why didn’t someone think of this sooner?

I played basketball in high school and had this huge mouthpiece that I felt just got in the way. Breathing was definitely more difficult. Now they have these thinner, breathable ones that I think are great.

Thanks for letting me know about these. My kid may be looking at these in the future.

    1. The companies did not have advanced technologies back then. Surely, they have come a long way.

Yeah, for example, I used to have non-brand mouth guard during sparring and I just could not even drink water when I used that. But that was almost 9 years ago. Sisu is known for producing mouth guards for producing extra thin guards and these even have products which are made for children.
