War Tribe Men’s BJJ Gi
Durability: 9.5 / 10.0
Comfort: 8.7 / 10.0
Quality / Price Rating: 7.8 / 10.0
Exclusive Features
- 450 Gsm Pearl Weave
- Durable pants
- Good design
- Light
- Reinforced stitching
Let’s talk about the design and fitting first. When you look at the gi, it is not a classic cut but it is not a slim fit cut either. It is in between. The reason is that the slim fit cuts have a really close fitting chest compartment but this one has a bit more room than usual. It generally has above average fitting feedback on forums but keep in mind that the sleeves are a bit wider than usual. But after the famous first wash, these fit better and don’t have an extra room much. Also, if you don’t like the fit and find it wide, you can always shrink it more with different methods like ironing.
It has pearl weave, which is 450 gsm, and it is quite durable yet it is light as well. Thanks to these and reinforced stitching on the jacket, the gi can last more than four years. Pants are tear resistant and made of cotton. The inner part does not have much extra room as well.
450 gsm pearl weave jiu-jitsu kimonos do not provide as much airflow as single weave gis but still, it is above average. However, the mesh helps for more air circulation and wicking the moisture. When this is the case, the comfort is definitely good enough.
As a final note, War Tribe Men’s BJJ Gi has quite awesome design selections including Lionheart.
This gi’s durability is really good and the pants are tear resistant. This weave type is also considered as the most durable weave type. When you factor all of these, in my opinion, this gi’s cost efficiency is good enough for purchasing.
War Tribe Men’s BJJ Hydrogen Ultra-Light Gi
Durability: 8.9 / 10.0
Comfort: 9.3 / 10.0
Quality / Price Rating: 9.7 / 10.0
Exclusive Features
- Standard and good design
- Good fitting
- Very light
- Amazing comfort
- IBJJF approved gi
- Looks really great
Cons
- Lasts slightly less than the gi above (but it is still quite durable)
This gi has a more tapered cut than the others. The arm compartment, chest, sleeves are quite tight which make the gi hard to grab. The tapered design helps with the lightweight and 350 gsm pearl weave also is a factor for it. Considering that the pants are also 8 oz., this gi is definitely one of the lightest gis. It provides definitely an advantage and it is basically made for tournaments, helps you show outstanding performance on BJJ mats without any hindrance of movement.
It is 350 gsm and not as durable as the gis which are 450 gsm. But it is just a slight disadvantage for durability but not for the training performance. However, War Tribe BJJ Hydrogen Gi also has reinforced stitching for extending the durability. The stitching is frequent and it is double stitched. The pants, shoulders, and chest have double stitching as well. The durability of this gi gets B+.
The material is quite soft and when it is also light and has pearl weave, you can comfortably roll with this kimono.
This gi is your gi as it is IBJJF approved and you can get ready for the tournament with this gi.
As a final note, embroidery on shoulders looks like it is made with care and you will get some attention while you are on mats.
The sizing is also quite detailed and if you are interested in War Tribe Men’s Hydrogen, check out the sizing guide and gi.
War Tribe Men’s IceWeave Gi
Durability: 8.9 / 10.0
Comfort: 9.3 / 10.0
Quality / Price Rating: 9.7 / 10.0
Exclusive Features
- Decent design
- Good fitting
- 350 GSM pearl weave
- Cotton and polyester blend
- 10 oz. pants
Cons
- Doesn’t have the best freedom of movement
- Price should be lower
It has a blend which consists of polyester and mostly cotton. These gis tend to be more durable but when you move it may not offer the freedom of movement of other gis. Don’t get me wrong the design is good. It has the classic War Tribe Gi design. For example, it has close chest compartment and also has slim fit cut pants. With that being said, when you do an escape or are grappling, this jacket may slightly resist doing some of them due to the material density.
Even though the name says it is IceWeave, this gi actually has pearl weave as you can see on the product page. The reason is that why it is called IceWeave is that there are a few additions to this gi to make it more comfortable.
The blend basically wicks moisture at a faster rate and allows a lot of air in and out. But it is not that fast and still, your wrists and chest will have sweat as it allows sweat to escape. So your gi will not get heavier at a fast rate. This is a small but important detail as your speed and quickness do not suffer while grappling. Considering the feedback, it is excellent for hot weather and people who love to have a bit more comfort.
Alright, War Tribe IceWeave is above average for training performance and also provides amazing comfort. But does it deserve this price tag? In my opinion, it does not as the durability is lower than the kimonos above.
The Complaints
Even though many people say that they have great experiences with various shopping sites there are also a few complaints which War Tribe Gis seem like that there are in stock but many shopping sites don’t actually have them. So a few people could not get the shipment and they hustled to got their money back. I got a few comments which basically say the same. So I normally don’t say the following but I honestly think that you should buy War Tribe Gis only from Amazon.
Also, I don’t like wider sleeves. I just don’t feel comfortable when sleeves have a more place to grab and this is the case with many War Tribe Gis. If you don’t like that, Hayabusa Kimonos are a better fit for you.
Also, these gis cost more than standard gis. I get it the company uses pearl weave which has at least 350 gsm and pants which have good airflow technology and they charge you more. I am fine with that but I just wished that the company has more affordable gis for budget buyers.
Final Thoughts
These gis are higher end and these are not quite popular as other brands. In my opinion, it is due to the lack of advertisement as the quality, design of these kimonos are great.
Aesthetics: I pretty much covered everything related to training performance, however, I should definitely emphasize the following. These look unique and these models have quite unique colors as well. Thanks to great fitting (tight around arms and chest), these look like a tailored suit. If you are one of the people, who want to stand out from the crowd, there are a lot of options.
Gis like War Tribe Men’s Gi (Pearl Weave) has a few different designs like Reaper and Lionheart. So considering that you like the qualities (pearl weave, 450 gsm, great freedom of movement etc.), it definitely has options for people who look for something different and unique. These uniforms also have different colors other than white, royal blue, and black (standard tournament colors).
Sizes: War Tribe also produces gis for women and the awesome thing is that these kimonos have different sizes for jacket and pants so it can provide a way better fit than other female gis on the market.
War Tribe Gis are higher-end gis and definitely for more serious grapplers. People ask that “are these worth the money?”. Well, I think you don’t get good value for some of them (I mentioned which ones are worth the money above). But the thing is that if you decide to go for cheaper jiu-jitsu gis, even though you can go find a good gi, which has a good design, material quality tends to be lower than War Tribe Gis. This is why the prices are a bit higher than it is supposed to. As I stated, these kimonos are for serious people about their jiu-jitsu journey.
Do you have any questions about War Tribe Gi reviews or the company?
Have you rolled with these kimonos?

I see several in the BJJ studio next to the gym going with the hydrogen Gi, which the lead instructor wears himself more often than not. I do see a good deal of the iceweaves, but the prevailing product from my experience tends to be the hydrogens.
