Fairtex BGV1 Boxing Gloves Review – Should You Get It?

Fairtex has one of the most popular boxing gloves on the market but does it deserve this popularity?

You can literally see Fairtex BGV1 in every boxing, Muay Thai or MMA gym. With that, it has some distinct qualities and these truly separate this pair from any other gloves. Actually, this is the reason why it has such a popularity.

In this review, you can see these qualities, my experiences and also sizing information for your hand as well.

Without further ado let’s start.

Cons

  • 2-4 weeks of break-in period

The padding is a bit stiffer than usual and it just does not move much. When you punch the bag with it, you will feel like it stays in its position and you will be right. The padding barely moves. The padding is stiff and it is the reason that BGV1 is smaller than other pairs. It is dense and has almost the same weight with other padding types.

During a heavy bag training session, you don’t feel a thing since the distribution is so good for absorbing impact.

Also, you can punch a bit faster than usual with Fairtex. Since thanks to the dense padding, the padding at the upper side is less and won’t slow you down. It is a small detail but it is definitely a huge plus.

The dense padding also distributes the shock ultra-fast and during a punch bag training session, this quality will be really useful for you.

Even though this padding type (stiff and does not move much) is not common, it works really well for Fairtex BGV1 and it gets very good feedback from boxing and martial arts community.

The glove is tighter than usual and the wrist closure also feels tighter than normal. Shortly it is a tight pair 😉

The thumb compartment is also designed as straight and you can find this design only in a few pairs.

With that, I always like tighter wrist closure. Because based on my experiences it stabilizes my wrist better and I always felt safer with this type.

Fairtex BGV1 has all safety and training qualities and you can do all training types (focus mitts, heavy bag, double end bag, sparring) with it.

You can choose this training type pair according to size information below.

Youth 8-12 oz.
101-150 LBS. 12-14 oz.
151-175 LBS. 14-16 oz.
Over 175 LBS. 16-18 oz.

It is Thai style pair and it is suitable for clinch work since thanks to the design and padding distribution, it gives way more control over pair than any other designs. So it is seriously an ideal pair for clinch work. Because of that, a myriad of people use it in Muay Thai and MMA gyms.

Durability: The leather is genuine and a bit rougher than normal. Considering many people’s experiences on forums, you can expect to train with it at least three years. With that, the padding is stiff and barely gets deformation during impacts. So the durability of the padding is even more than leather’s durability.

Fit and comfort: As you know it is Thai style pair and like many other Thai style boxing gloves, it is really comfy. After all, people, who live in Thailand, are in hot climate and really care about it. The liner is actually one of the best-reviewed ones on the market and gets rid of the sweat quite fast. It is handmade and even though it provides a great fit, it is a bit tighter than usual.

Shortly, fit and comfort get B+ from me.

Break-in Period: There is a negative side and it is the break-in period. Depending on your training frequency, you will have break-in period between 2 and 4 weeks.

Quality Price Ratio: Fairtex does not overprice the products and this pair is one of them. Considering that you get solid 3 years of training sessions and very good comfort, the price is seriously good. Since the gloves, which are in the same price range, generally, don’t offer half of the Fairtex’s value.

Some Thoughts on Design: As you know the design of Fairtex BGV1 is different and only a few pairs on the market have similar padding type and distribution. However, according to a myriad of reviews, it is really obvious that Fairtex provides the best performance among all pairs, which have this design, by far. So if you want to try this padding type and distribution, there is no quality option other than Fairtex.

Popularity: Alright it is normal to see this pair in Asia. After all, these are made in Thailand however, over the years I saw BGV series in many European countries as well. I need to say that I was very surprised to see them when I was in Europe. These countries were Croatia and Greece.

Velcro: As far as I know all BGV series have velcro closures and it is very easy to wear and take it off. Since the padding is small and it gives you more control over your glove.

Color and Design Selection: You have many design and color selections. USA Flag, red and white are just some of them.

The Verdict: Fairtex BGV1 is a Great Pair

Final Thoughts on Fairtex BGV1 This handmade pair shines with the padding and leather quality. It also gives you more control over the pair and you can use it over 3 years. It has some serious quality and if you think of getting a great pair for all training types, I can easily suggest Fairtex BGV1. 1. My 12 year old son has just started muay thai training and I’m looking at getting him some gloves. These seem like a great choice but is this the type of gloves a beginner would be wearing or is it for the more advanced?

    1. These are just great for Muay Thai and Fairtex BGV! is actually the first choice for Muay Thai. Since it is sutaible for clinching and provides mobility. So it is a great choice for your son.
