Venum Boxing Gloves Review, The Ultimate Guide for All Pairs

Venum is one of the most experienced companies about MMA and boxing gears. They produce boxing gloves for every need and every budget. I really appreciate this side of the company. In this Venum Boxing Gloves review you will find all Venum’s popular pairs’ pros, cons, exclusive features and also sizing chart for your hand.

Update (August,2017): I also included my latest experiences with two of these of these pairs.

Venum Elite Boxing Gloves Overview

Venum Boxing Gloves ReviewProtection Rating: 8.5 / 10.0

Training Quality Rating: 8.0 / 10.0

Durability: 8.0 / 10

Quality / Price Rating: 9.6 / 10.0

Best Place to buy: Amazon

Pros

  • Above average padding quality
  • Thermal regulating mesh
  • Last 1-2 years
  • Really good value for the money
  • Suitable for all training types
  • Have ALL safety features
  • Good option for a beginner
  • Very wide range of color selection (white, orange…)

Cons

  • “Average” training performance

It has every safety feature including wrist support, padding quality and quantity. It has three layers of padding and your knuckles are protected during punching bag training. It also has thermal regulating mesh to keep your hands fresh all the time and it also gets rid of moisture. As a huge plus, you can do every training type including focus mitt and sparring.

However, its leather is not real and it is synthetic. After 1-2 years it will start tearing apart and before it will tear apart, it will have rough spots.

Price: Considering all these qualities, its quality price ratio is incredible and it will give you same quality punching experience about 1-2 years. You can choose it according to size chart below.

Let’s continue with the average Venum pair…

Venum Contender Boxing Gloves Overview

Venum Contender Boxing Gloves ReviewProtection Rating: 5.0 / 10.0

Training Quality Rating: 4.0 / 10.0

Durability: 5.0 / 10

Quality / Price Rating: 6.5 / 10.0

Pros

  • Above average padding quality
  • Affordable
  • Will do the job

Alright, Contender is very popular and yet it is an “alright” pair. The cover material is made of polyurethane it is not the sturdiest material however you can expect train with Contender around a year. After that, the cover material has some defects or the padding can have some hard spots.

It has good thermal regulating features and it is the only thing which is above average and it is sutaible for all training types and as a side note I have seen a lot of people do heavy bag and pad work with it.

Price: It is the cheapest pair which has a certain quality. If you are on a budget go check out the amazing price.

Venum “Sharp” Nappa Leather Boxing Gloves Overview

Venum "Sharp" Nappa Leather Boxing Gloves  ReviewProtection Rating: 8.5 / 10.0

Training Quality Rating: 9.3 / 10.0

Durability: 8.8 / 10

Quality / Price Rating: 9.0 / 10.0

Pros

  • Good padding quality
  • Thermal regulating mesh
  • Made of real leather
  • Last 2-3 years
  • Ideal for all training types
  • Have all safety features
  • INCREDIBLE option for everyone
  • Handmade

The leather is the main factor for durability and Venum “Nappa” has amazing quality leather. This pair is handmade and it is crafted in Thailand. As you will have a break in time with any handmade pair you will also have some break in time with Venum Nappa. I searched online and people mentioned that they had 1 month of break in time. Well, it is quite less than many other handmade pairs and it is a good sign. After 1 month, you will start having quality punching experience and you can expect to use this pair more than 2 years.

Again this pair if for ALL training types including punching bag, pad work and sparring. Its cushion has amazing quality, it won’t have rough spots like synthetic leather. These features make this pair ideal for sparring and surely won’t hurt your sparring partner in future as well. If you are looking for all around and most quality Venum pair, then Venum Sharp Nappa is just for you.

I checked many comfort feedback and a myriad of people say that Venum Sharp is the comfiest pair which they have ever used and keep in mind that I checked only verified purchase reviews.

Update: I trained with Venum “Sharp” in Samut Prakan, Thailand for two months and I mostly did pad work with it and the wrist support is solid and I am %100 sure that the leather can take a beating. It was really sturdy. So far it is my favourite Venum pair and it also looks cool as well.

Price: Considering the genuine quality leather and premium quality training performance, the price is actually good.

Venum Giant 3.0 Boxing Gloves Overview

Venum Giant 3.0 Boxing Gloves ReviewProtection Rating: 9.5 / 10.0

Punching Bag Training Quality Rating: 9.5 / 10.0

Durability: 8.5 / 10

Quality / Price Rating: 9.0 / 10.0

Pros

  • Incredible padding quality
  • Made of real leather
  • Last 2-3 years
  • Perfect for heavy bag training
  • Sweat inhibitor lining for extra comfort
  • Suitable for focus mitt training
  • Have all safety features
  • Handmade

Cons

  • Break in time
  • Not suitable for sparring

Venum Giant has the same “Nappa” leather as Sharp model and this pair is also handmade. You will constantly punch the bag and it will shorten the break in period. So this period is definitely shorter than 4 months. With that, you are supposed to use Venum Giant for all training types. However its padding is really tough for a sparring session and after you spar with someone, I am sure that your partner won’t want to have a training session with you again.

However, the padding forgets its memory very fast. After you hit a heavy bag, its padding will come to original state very soon and you can punch again with the same quality. And as you know padding is tough. These two features are most important durability and training performance factors for punching bag. Just a few heavy bag gloves on the market can match its quality. You can also do focus mitt training with it and thanks to its leather quality it will be durable against frictions and any kind of deformations. Even though you punch the heavy bag 4 times per week, you can use this pair around 2 years. Its padding has so much quality and it will even outlast its own Nappa leather. Venum knows about the challenges of punching bag training and it has great lining feature to prevent moisture. So your hands will always stay dry during punching bag workout sessions. If you are looking for a heavy bag pair, then you don’t have to look anymore. Venum Giant is simply PERFECT for a heavy bag.

  1. Great review Furkan!

I like the Venum brand. I see a lot people at gym having products from them. I think I’ll buy for myself the Elite gloves. What is your impression about their bags?

    1. I like Venum as well and I think Venum Elite would be my first choice as well. Actually I even did not know that they have bags 🙂 I will ask around and search online and I already have your e-mail, I will mail to you about the bags Andrei 😉

  2. robert lawrence

Thanks for the info. I bought the Venum contender gloves a few months ago and I’ve already worn them out just about. They are already in pretty rough shape which is annoying and frustrating.

I was actually surprised because I’ve always used Venum gear in the past and I’ve never had any quality problems before. I must have just got a bad pair.

I’m glad I stumbled across this website because you’ve outlined it for me nicely and now I know which ones to get next.

I think next I’ll try the Venum Elite gloves because you’ve made them sound pretty good and you seem to know what you’re talking about. Thanks so much.

    1. After contender you will love Venum Elite. It will be an incredible upgrade and definitely use it way more than a few months 😉 You can easily expect to use 1-2 years. Some Venum products have serious quality. I also used headgear almost for a year now and it is still going strong and doesn’t slide etc. I am glad you have nice experience with Venum and Have a nice training with Elite, Robert.

  3. Nice review!! I want to get some gloves and bags for me and my family so we can practice and get some exercise. I really like the Venum elite because that straight black looks the best and it is suitable for all training types. Thanks for the info!

  4. Thanks for the review! The ratings you give are really helpful. Was looking to buy some gloves again for a quite a while, so this article came just in time!

  5. Very informative gives me a nice great break down of all the different options. I have a bag and wanted to start this year with hitting it for exercise but do not have gloves. Thank you for this.

  6. very insightful information, I never knew there were so many differences in boxing gloves, My son ask for a pair, I would have just but him a pair without a knowledge of what would be best for him. After reading your content, I feel much more informed in selecting the best pair for him.

    1. I am glad that I helped. If you have any questions about these Venum pairs (padding stiffness, support etc.) just send me your question.

  7. Great review! This is one of the better ones I’ve seen, actually. I’ve been thinking about getting into boxing, but I don’t know a thing about gloves or any of the other equipment. A review like this tells me pretty much all I need to know, as far as what to get for a beginner like myself, what to expect from the gloves themselves, and how much I could expect to pay. Great site and awesome review! I’ll be looking into this.
