Scramble Athlete v3 Gi

Scramble Gi ReviewCheck It Out: on Amazon

Training Quality: 9.7 / 10.0

Durability: 9.5 / 10.0

Comfort: 9.6 / 10.0

Quality / Price Rating: 9.1 / 10.0

Exclusive Features

  • Good quality fabric
  • Allows full range of motion
  • 450 gsm pearl (lighter than many Gis)
  • One of the most quality jiu-jitsu Gis on the market!
  • I have good experiences with it!

My Experiences: Firstly, this is the only Scramble BJJ Gi on this list which I have experiences with. I have an average body and before I invested any money, I had known that this is sturdy enough for frequent training sessions and considering that I lived in suburbs of Thailand and sucked at ironing, it did the job perfectly and shrank only a bit. The sleeve part shrank around 5 finger width after two years. However, keep in mind that it shrinks mostly after the first wash. After that, it is basically minimal. I did my grappling dummy sessions and I could basically move freely and did all the submission techniques without any restriction whatsoever. As a side note, the collar is thick so while you are doing sparring, surely it comes in handy.

Technical Stuff: 450 gsm pearl weave jacket is light since the pearl gsm number is quite high and the blend (with 12 oz. cotton) is sturdy enough. This blend is one of the ideal blends for BJJ and the sleeve part gets quite good fitting rates as well. It is “tighter” than other models. Also, the groin area is a bit loose and suitable for groin BJJ cups (guards).

Body Type: Alright I have an average body (170 Lbs. and 180 cm) and it fitted great. According to my research on jiu-jitsu forums, many long-legged people also gave quite good feedbacks as well.

Thanks to these qualities, you can roll on and do groundwork, submission on BJJ mats with this Gi every single day!

Below you can see Athletic v3 closely and pick up your own on here. As a final note, it is preferred a lot for competitions.

Scramble Standard Issue Semi Custom Gi

Scramble Standard Issue Sem Custom Gi reviewTraining Quality: 9.1 / 10.0

Durability: 9.3 / 10.0

Comfort: 9.0 / 10.0

Quality / Price Rating: 9.5 / 10.0

Exclusive Features

  • Sturdy
  • Ergonomic design
  • Pants get rid of sweat fast
  • Good price!

Standard (this model) and the model above have similarities. For example, these have the same pearl weave and the same blend. Basically, the construction is same and you can expect to wear this one for years as well. With that the design and construction of the pants are different. The sleeves have a bit more extra room but it is still “tighter” than normal. With that, the pants are made of ripstop and it is sturdier. Also, professionally done seams make this gi even sturdier. With that, it provides a bit less range of motion than the gi above.

The cotton pants are sturdy and it gets rid of sweat quite fast. I also saw many good feedbacks from people who have long legs and people who have average bodies.

The patches are small and just look awesome. If you are interested, check out the patches and see the sizing information on Amazon.

Scramble x Godfather Gi Black A0 Review

Scramble x Godfather Gi Black A0 ReviewTraining Quality: 9.7 / 10.0

Comfort: 9.0 / 10.0

Quality / Price Rating: 8.5 / 10.0

Exclusive Features

  • Very good quality materials
  • Really light
  • Fits well
  • Very rare!

It is made of 550 gsm pearl weave top and has the highest pearl percentage on this list. Thanks to this, it is one of the lightest BJJ Gis on the market!

Alright, one thing is to note that Godfather Gi is really rare and most of the time you simply can’t find this top-notch Gi on the market all the time and I rarely see this Gi on online shopping sites.

Also, I loved the Godfather movie and in my opinion, this Gi is a good way to show that you loved that movie. Also, does not it look really cool?

If you want to see it closely, check out the detailed pictures on here. As a final note, it is officially licensed.

Scramble Toshi Gi

Scramble Toshi Gi reviewTraining Quality: 9.2 / 10.0

Durability: 8.8 / 10.0

Comfort: 9.7 / 10.0

Quality / Price Rating: 8.9 / 10.0

Exclusive Features

  • 450 Gsm pearl weave
  • Ergonomic design
  • Comfy
  • Cool looks

This lightweight Gi also has similar tapered design and the pants fit perfectly without giving too much extra room. The pants are made of twill and provide good airflow, however, is not sturdy as cotton. With that, considering jiu-jitsu forum members’ experiences, you can expect to wear it two or more years.

Whichever body type you have, if you get it according to the sizing information, it will be a good fit. However, considering these, it can also be an option for people who have a few extra pounds.

Many people on Jiu-Jitsu forums also say that they wear rash guards underneath them without any discomfort.

So, the jacket weighs same as Athlete however the pants are lighter. These qualities make this gi very light as well. Many people prefer very light pants and if you have long legs, this stylish Gi does not slow you down, does not limit your movements and helps you improve your grappling performance.

Considering the very lightweight, Scramble Toshi Gi can be your sparring gi. Since it is really comfy and provides amazing airflow with the twill pants. So while you are rolling on the mats, it smells less ; ) If you train in a hot environment or just want to be more comfortable, Scramble Toshi can be a solid choice.

Final Thoughts

These models on this list have the popularity for a reason. The blends of these are considered as ideal blend ratios (pearl, cotton…) and have good fitting rates. These have different designs and everyone can find a suitable one. With that, if you have an average or a lanky body type, definitely have a look at Scramble Athlete v3. It gets amazing feedback and it is actually at the top of many best lists! And according to my research, it is one of the lightest Gis on the market.

About Scramble: The brand produces many good quality BJJ gears and this includes rash guards, BJJ belts… And many people just love the Japanese design of the Gis. With that, one thing is to note that the design of the Gis on this writing literally get amazing feedback and these kimonos look really cool. Thanks to the design, freedom, and durability you can find Scramble Gis on many best lists. Some provide good air regulating qualities, some provide very long durability… So you can be sure that you can find a suitable gi according to your preference. Not all Scramble BJJ Gis fit great, however, while I was gathering this list, I also considered that and these kimonos get at least above average fitting ratings. Also, considering that Scramble generally uses the same materials (cotton ripstop etc.), these shrink only little and thanks to this you have one less thing to worry about.

Note: Some of the Gis come with patches and the company recommends you to sew them. You can also prefer ironing but as you can guess it can fall off in the future. There are many good sewing videos all over YouTube. After you get your Gi, you can sew the patches accordingly.

I hope that you enjoyed reading Scramble Gi review and if you need any further information about these Gis or any other Scramble models, you can just leave a comment below.

  1. I don’t know much about BJJ, but I can see how this review can be really useful. I can only imagine how it might suck being in a low quality outfit while trying to do BJJ. That wouldn’t be fun. I see that there are different pearl weaves. What’s the difference between the percentage of pearl weaves?

    Thanks for the post!

    1. You are right man and I totally agree with that. As for your question, when pearl weave percentage increases, the gi becomes sturdier and heavier. However, if sturdiness goes up by %10, the weight goes up for %1.

  2. Hi Furkan, a solid review!
I never understood the connection in the pearl weave percentage and weight. Obviously, weight is an issue but being made too weak for jiu-jitsu grapples is also a problem. Would you say the V3 Gi is a good middle ground?

    1. Yes, it affects a lot. I would say that the first is a good middle ground and it also has thicker compartments (collar etc.) for giving you an advantage during sparring.

  3. Yep I agree it is not worth getting a low quality BJJ only for it to tear on you. Does the first one listed come in any different colours besides the blue? Thanks.

    1. I am sure that Scramble Athlete can take a tear and wear a long time for a long time Owain. Well, just checked out a couple of sellers and right now it has black, blue, and white colors.

  4. It is very nice colored training suit and it seems very comfortable too. I do also think, no matter it shrinks a bit in time, it is not disturbing factor in training and free movement. I have also long legs, and I wonder how it would fit me. Price seems reasonable and acceptable. I personally like blue colored suit the most.

    1. If you are talking about Athlete v.3, yeah it can accommodate your physical attributes quite well and it quite light. Many long legged people prefer Scramble design since the pants’ design is almost same.
However, I think you need to know more about shrinking since if you shrink your gi more than you should, it can hinder your movement. Especially shoulder compartment can really bother you. If you are interested, you can check out my how to shrink a BJJ gi article and find out more about it.

  5. I was wondering if these Gi’s were made with any kind of special stitching to avoid ripping and tearing?
Does the color of the Gi mean anything? Could and one where any color?
Also does the names of these Gi’s mean anything? The Godfather Gi sounds badass. LOL
I would not want to offend anyone wearing the wrong color or type of Gi entering a Dojo.

    1. What do you mean by special stitching? It has regular stitching type almost any other sports clothing have like MMA shorts.

The Gi name does not mean anything. I have seen gis, which are named as “lightweight”, are heavier than usual and I also saw gis, which are named as Athletic, have a classic design. So it does not mean anything.

I really like the looks of Godfather too : )
