2. Aduro Sport Workout Training Mask

Effectiveness: 9.5 / 10.0

Design: 9.1 / 10.0

Durability: 9.1 / 10.0

Quality / Price Rating: 9.8 / 10.0

Aesthetics: 9.5 /10.0

Exclusive Features

  • Improves respiratory system
  • Train longer
  • Stronger diaphragm
  • 4 resistance levels
  • Has really good fitting rates
  • Lifetime 100% satisfaction guarantee from the company
  • Has the greatest quality price ratio

It creates pulmonary resistance effectively and it can be adjusted quite easily. You also don’t need to stop your workout. You can experience 4 different altitudes which are 4000, 8000, 12 000, and 16 000 feet. According to many experiments, your respiratory muscles will adjust to higher altitudes after 4 weeks. With that, the study also shows that you will start breathing deeper and better just after a week.

The sleeve absorbs the sweat well and it simply does not slip. It is also made for the anatomical structure of the head so when you wear it you feel “natural”. So this is actually why it has a great fitting rate and does not slip. However, there is a weight restriction and you need to be between 120 Lbs. and 230 Lbs. Other than that you just need to adjust the straps according to your head and you will be just fine.

Alright, the company gives 100% satisfaction guarantee. I also used many other Aduro gears before and there is actually a lot of information on my site. Shortly, you can completely trust the company. So if you don’t like the mask, you can return it without any hassle and get a full refund.

According to many running forums, Aduro Sport Workout Training Mask is the best training mask for running.  Considering the quality, long durability, and the amazing price tag, in my opinion, you get way more than what you pay. I also used an older model of Aduro and when you are inhaling and exhaling, it creates optimal resistance and a lot of training masks just fail miserably about it.

You have many color selections including gray, pink, and white. As a final note, according to my research (online selling data etc.), it is the most popular elevation mask out there. With that, I also saw it more than I can count.

3. Training Mask 2.0

one of the most quality MMA training masksEffectiveness: 9.3 / 10.0

Design: 9.2 / 10.0

Durability: 9.0 / 10.0

Quality / Price Rating: 9.5 / 10.0

Aesthetics: 9.9 /10.0

Exclusive Features

  • Improves lung capacity and ventilatory threshold fast
  • Very ergonomic design
  • Breathe better
  • Adjust the resistance easily (6 different levels)
  • I saw it in many MMA Gyms
  • One of the best training mask sleeves

Firstly the sleeve does not only look cool but it also lasts a long time. It is neoprene and this material can stretch well and it is sturdy. So it is just perfect for elevation masks.

With that, this material is actually quite durable and according to my research on forums, you can expect to use it more than 3 years. This material can also stretch without hurting the durability of it and it is comfy.

As you can see in the picture, it has a really ergonomic design and Training Mask 2.0 is lighter than many other high altitude masks. It comes with 6 valve caps, 3 air resistance valve base pieces, and a workout sheet.

As a side note, these valve caps also help the mask stay in place.

With that, these are not cheap, low-quality materials and a myriad of professional athletes actually use this training mask.

You will see the results with this mask just after a week. Some of the results are having more lung capacity so you can push yourself more and you will also use oxygen more efficiently. I also know that many boxers in my old boxing gym did their regular training sessions (heavy bag etc.) with it and saw great results. If these are appealing to you, take a closer look at this amazing mask on Amazon to read more information and verified purchase reviews or you can read my detailed review as well.

I also saw that many professionals, who live in European countries (Romania, Bulgaria…), use it.

4. Training Mask by Lycoss

good high altitude training maskEffectiveness: 8.8 / 10.0

Design: 9.1 / 10.0

Durability: 9.0 / 10.0

Quality / Price Rating: 9.0 / 10.0

Aesthetics: 9.2 /10.0

Exclusive Features

  • Improves lung capacity
  • More endurance
  • Quality materials (medical grade silicon)
  • 8 altitude levels
  • I have awesome experiences with it!
  • Comes with eBook which has exercises

It is made of medical grade silicone and it is one of the sturdiest materials for altitude masks. The durability is decent and air flow system stays in place and does not move much. It is actually a common problem for many training masks.

Also, you can change the altitude quite easily with levers.

Training Mask by Lycoss is the only (so far) high altitude mask on this list which I have experiences with. It has MANY altitude levels. It has actually 8 different settings. So what does it provide for you?

Let’s look at an example…

When your respiratory system adjusts to a certain altitude there will be a higher altitude which is not so much different than the altitude which you trained at. So air flow will be restricted only a bit more. Thanks to that, I actually improved my endurance a lot quicker than usual. So if you want to see the results (fat burning, muscle building etc.) really fast, I can easily recommend you to get your own Training Mask by Lycoss. I also used fitness tracker while I was training with this mask and according to it, I could burn more calories in a shorter amount of time as well.

It has two straps and these make sure that this training mask stays on your head all the time. I also used it during my plyometric box and agility ladder sessions and it just stayed like a rock!

Also if you don’t like the mask, you can return it and get your money back. However considering my experiences I really doubt that someone will ever return it. It has one size and if you are between 145 Lbs. and 235 Lbs., it will fit without any problem.

5. Vikingstrength Fitness Mask Pro

review of one of the best rated high altitude masksEffectiveness: 8.5 / 10.0

Design: 8.8 / 10.0

Durability: 8.5 / 10.0

Quality / Price Rating: 9.3 / 10.0

Aesthetics: 9.0 /10.0

Exclusive Features

  • Improves anaerobic threshold
  • Train longer
  • 4 resistance levels
  • Breathe better
  • The cheapest training mask which has decent quality
  • Comes with a carrying bag

Vikingstrength is also made of medical grade silicone and even though the sleeve is not bulky like others it does the job. Actually, straps are tight and these provide a good fit and I know that some people just love this design type. When the design is not “bulky”, the sleeve is made with fewer materials. Thanks to that, Vikingstrength is light.

It has 4 different altitude settings which are 3000, 8000, 13 000, and 18 000 feet.

According to experiments, you will have stronger diaphragm within weeks and you can breathe more properly and efficiently.

The pieces can be disassembled quite easily within a minute and you can clean all of it in a minute as well.

Shortly Vikingstrength Fitness Mask Pro does the job just fine and it has a really affordable price. You can check out all the systems including medical silicone, inner and outer mechanisms at the Amazon’s product page. There are seriously really detailed pictures from many different angles. As a final note, this mask comes with a good quality carrying bag which always gets positive feedback from customers.

Altitude Mask Buyer’s Guide

Materials and Cleaning: Medical grade silicone and neoprene are the best materials for sleeves. These quality materials last really long time and have elasticity. Also, these are easy to clean with a training mask cleaner. However, if you use a training mask, which is made of different material, you need to check whether it can be cleaned with elevation mask cleaners or not. After all, you don’t want to hurt the material of your mask, right? As a side note, you can clean all the altitude masks on this list with training mask cleaners.

Also, the materials need to absorb the sweat and moisture really well because not only you will sweat, have saliva etc. these can actually get in the inner mechanism and lower the durability of a mask so the materials and design simply should inhibit these.

Alright, this one is a personal experience and when I wore my second training mask, my face was all red. Even though many elevation masks have hypoallergenic qualities some don’t.

With that, if you are allergic to pollen or some tree in your own garden and can’t work out there, you can also use these masks for these problems.

Straps: Even though there are some other strap styles, according to a myriad of people velcro provides a better fit.

Air Restriction: Your training mask should provide resistance while you are inhaling and exhaling. There are actually many low-quality masks which provide resistance while only inhaling. These just don’t the job well so your respiratory muscles don’t improve well.

With that, there are also some quality masks which have even air filters so when you use these, you also experience the effects of training in a pollution-free environment. Is not this just awesome?

Fitting: Straps, sleeves should be anatomically designed since it provides a better fit. Also, the materials of your sleeve should get rid of moisture as soon as possible so your training mask does not slide and the materials above do the job just fine.

Design: Design should be ergonomic and it should provide training mask to be made of fewer materials. Not only this provides a more affordable price tag but it also helps you to be more comfortable. With that, the inner mechanism, flux valve… should stay stable during your workout. Imagine that a piece in your training mask moves around while you kick a heavy bag during your MMA training, it wouldn’t be nice, would it?

Altitude (level) Selection System: You need to definitely check out the ease of usage. Because if it is not easy, you need to stop your workout, take your mask off and change altitude and finally you can continue your workout. Actually even writing these make me tired. You need to change it easily so you can get all the benefits of your training properly. The best systems are valve and lever for it.

Also, altitude difference between levels should not be too much. Otherwise, when you get to a more advanced level, your respiratory muscles face too much resistance and this situation is far from ideal. It should increase little by little. Actually, I had the best results when the difference was really little and I read many sources but there is actually not a lot of information about this topic but according to my experiences, 4000 feet should be the maximum difference. Obviously, the less is better.

As a side note, many people reported great results after they had done exercises, which are both anaerobic and aerobic (battle ropes, heavy bag training…), with masks.

Reviews: Normally I would not put a review section in a buyer’s guide but honestly what else is there for evaluating the training masks? You should definitely get a product which has many good and trustworthy reviews. So you can be sure that you can see the results. There are also many boxers, athletes etc. who use popular brands’ certain masks and do training with them. If I were to buy a training mask again I would definitely consider the training masks, which are used by professional boxers, fighters etc., as well. As you can guess, the altitude masks on this list are preferred by many athletes.

Weight: This is another important factor and after providing all the things above, your training mask also should be light as much as possible so it does not lower your training performance.

Other Benefits: In addition to benefits of altitude masks above, the inner mechanisms of quality masks also remove dust and clear air while breathing. So you can do every training type in any environment type including dusty air.

Good Brands

Training Mask: It is the first solid brand which started producing high altitude masks. Actually it inspired many different companies and at first, I know that many companies which just copied its design, air resistance system, and even sleeves! I also have experiences with the company and used one of the first models and it worked just fine. However, I can say that this company truly came from a long way. With that, there are also many successful athletes who use this brand’s products. The company shares all the information on the official site. It also has two different models on this list as well. Hands down, Training Mask is the best elevation mask company by far!

Aduro: I actually used Aduro for a long time and I also shared my experiences on my site. Shortly, I definitely pushed myself more during punching bag sessions and keep in mind that I used an older model and you can find the newer model on this list. Anyway interesting enough I have many acquaintances in an MMA gym in Samut Prakan, Thailand who use this brand’s different models and both of these guys were really satisfied with the fat burning results. Post-exercise energy consumption, which is called as EPOC, was also higher according to their fitness trackers, so I can easily recommend this brand to anyone!

Lycoss: Alright, I have personal experiences with the brand and even though it is not top-notch and only provides a few resistance levels it does the job just fine. Also, all the masks are fairly priced and all of them get quite positive feedback on forums. So even though Lycoss is not well-known like the other brands above, it is definitely getting there.

As I stated earlier I have a lot of experiences with good brands (generally with older models) so if you think of getting an older model, you can go with the brands above without any problem whatsoever!

Worst Brands

Well, I have not used any bad training mask so far because I always bought them after I had researched thoroughly. However, I read many fitness, boxing, kickboxing, and BJJ forums etc. and I came up with some brands which just suck at producing high altitude masks.

Everest Sports: Well the name is cool but according to MMA forum members the resistance system just can’t work properly (providing resistance) after 3 months. I also checked the material quality of the sleeve and the system. These also suck so just stay away from it.

CyberDyer: I could not find even one decent review on forums which I trust.

Note: Alright I could not include many bad brands in this writing because many brands have mixed reviews (bad ones and good ones) so I did not want a brand to look bad for no solid reason.

Important Note: Any of these training masks do the job since these have really good qualities and also have really good reviews as well. I also have experiences with some of them and you can actually start seeing results just after a week with some of them. With that, you should do your training (boxing, running, MMA…) sessions consistently to see the results under hypoxic conditions. Especially if you want your respiratory system to adjust for higher altitudes, you need to spend more time with training masks. According to Universty Studies and ACE Fitness, you need at least 6 weeks for it.

Final Thoughts

Even though there are many good quality elevation training masks on this list, Training Mask 3.0 is just superior to others in every category. It is made of better materials, has way better feedback and many people (verified purchases etc.) say that they saw results faster with it. I also trust the brand and many professional athletes do their regular training sessions with it. If these are appealing to you, I strongly suggest you have a look at Training Mask 3.0 on Amazon and start getting benefits right away. I really hope that you enjoyed reading the reviews of best training masks and if you have any questions about any elevation masks or anything at all, just have a comment below.

But to be honest I didn’t even know these masks were around. Thank you for making me aware of them. I am always looking for new ways to improve my workouts.

  4. This is something I could incorporate into my mtn biking regime. Since I do a lot of biking in the mountains, this could be a helpful item for being able to breathe and control my breath. Thanks for a great and insightful article.

    1. You can basically use training masks everywhere and I actually saw that many boxers use it during heavy bag training and after that, I also started doing the same and saw amazing results (more endurance etc.). So you should definitely give it a shot!

  5. I’ve seen a few people in the gym with these. I always thought they were afraid of catching a cold! I’m interested now. Do you know how you clean them though? I could see mine getting pretty funky quick.

Interesting! I enjoy running, so let’s say I wanted to run in Colorado, but I’ve never done that before. Would this mask help with that? And, would it help improve my breathing just normally here in Pennsylvania?

    1. Wherever you run, these masks improve your breathing and there are resistance levels. For example, when you run in Colorado and select a resistance level, these will add resistance. In addition that, you can add the altitude of Colorada to this resistance if you run in Colorada. So basically the improvements depend on where you run.

    Good presentation, thanks for sharing.
I have some experience with Lycoss, but I would like to try some Aduro…
What do you think about the brand, despite the fact you already classified it
as a good one? Actually, which one will you recommend for a beginner with
    limited budget? Thanks!

    1. Aduro is a budget-friendly training mas but it has fewer settings which can make it less effective for someone who already trained with a training mask. I recommend Training Mask 3.0 for you as it has higher altitude selections and more settings. But if you are on a budget, go for Aduro.
